BEAVERLODGE SCHOOL OUR MISSION:
TO BE A LEARNING COMMUNITY THAT ROCKS!
Beaverlodge School has developed a set of beliefs that are the foundation of our teaching. The following represents our school beliefs:
Beaverlodge Rocks!
R – We do the Right thing.
O – We are Open-minded.
C – We take Care.
K – We are Kind.
S – We Strive to achieve.
BEAVERLODGE – A SAFE AND CARING SCHOOL COMMUNITY
In striving to create and maintain a safe and caring school community, Beaverlodge School has adopted a Restitution approach to support children in choosing appropriate, socially acceptable behaviours that uphold the Pembina Trails Standard of Behaviour.
Restitution is an approach to discipline that encourages a person to grow toward self-discipline, self-evaluation, and self-respect. When something does not go well, the goal is to fix the problem and for everyone to become the person that they want to be. The emphasis of Restitution is not on behaving to please other people or to avoid unpleasant consequences, but rather on becoming a better person.
Healthy Schools …
In support of the Physical Education and Health Curriculum, Beaverlodge School has initiated a Health Enhancing Bee-haviours Programme. We have ten health behaviour themes: Be a Healthy Eater, Be Physically Active, Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Friend, Be Calm, Be Myself, Be Responsible, Be Aware and Be Proud. All student learning outcomes taught by classroom teachers have been covered under these themes.
The Behaviours are daily health enhancing bee-haviours that are reinforced daily through curricular connections.

Afternoon:
School Entry Time: 12:45 PM; classes begin: 12:50 PM
Afternoon Recess: 2:20 – 2:35 PM

Students are encouraged to arrive at school as close to the entry bells as possible so they do not have to remain outside unsupervised for any length of time, and also to ensure they will have the benefit of school patrols.
Students are reminded to use the back entrance while waiting to enter the school in the morning. For safety reasons, the parking lot is out of bounds.
Student Pick-Up and Drop Off:
We ask that parents, family, and friends who are dropping off or picking up children from school to NOT PARK in the front of the school in the vicinity of the crosswalk. Cars obstruct the view of our patrols and jeopardize the safety of children who are crossing. Using the parking lot for drop-off and turn-around is an unsafe practice. Please respect the NO PARKING signs.
School Patrols – Patrol Times Are:
Morning: 8:40–8:55 AM; 11:45–11:55 AM; Afternoon: 12:30–12:45 PM and 3:35–3:45 PM
School patrols are located at the intersections of Cullen and Rannock, Dale and Rannock and at the crossing in front of the school.
Please note: During lightning storms student patrols will not be at their posts. Also, should a lightning storm occur during the noon hour or 3:35 PM dismissal times all students will be kept in the building until the storm has passed. When temperatures fall below -28 degrees Celcius during the winter months, patrols will not be at their posts.
Lates
Students are considered late if they are not in their homeroom by 9:00 AM and 12:50 PM. Students arriving late must report to the school office.
Lunch Programme / Lunch Procedures
Students who stay at school over the noon hour will eat their lunch in their assigned room. Students are requested to use inside voices, remain in their seats for safety reasons, keep their eating area neat and tidy, and respectfully follow the expectations of the lunch room supervisors. More detailed information will be provided by the school office for all students enrolled in the lunch programme.
Litterless Lunch
Beaverlodge is an Earth V School. As a school that teaches environmental stewardship, we encourage students and staff to reduce the amount of waste by bringing lunches that contain no ‘litter’. Information on ‘Litterless Lunches’ will be sent home with each student.
Bicycles, Skateboards, Rollerblades and Heelies
Bicycle racks are provided for students who choose to ride their bikes to school. Students should purchase a sturdy lock, and should have a record of their bike’s serial number. The school assumes no responsibility for bicycles which may be damaged or stolen. Students may not bring skateboards, scooters, rollerblades or ‘heelies’ (shoes with wheels in them) to school.
Lost & Found
At Beaverlodge we work hard to teach children personal responsibility for their belongings. Our experience has shown that few items are actually lost. They have simply been left on the floor or in the gym change rooms. Our expectation is that students respect and care for their clothing and their belongings. We ask that all personal items, including shoes and gym clothes, be labeled with the student’s name. Anything left unclaimed will be donated to charity.
Student Use of Telephone
Students may use the telephone in the office if they receive permission to make a call from their homeroom teacher (telephone pass card will be provided) or from the office staff.
Emergency Evacuation Procedures
All staff and students must evacuate the school building at the sound of the alarm. In the event of an emergency situation which results in the evacuation of our school and re-entry is not possible, students and teachers will proceed directly to Westdale School. Parents and guardians will be notified if it becomes necessary to pick up their children.
Beaverlodge School Nutrition Policy and Guidelines
At Beaverlodge School we value and promote active, healthy lifestyles, and acknowledge the important role that nutrition plays in the growth and development of all children.
We are committed to fostering and supporting healthy eating practices among our students by providing them with the knowledge, opportunities, guidance and encouragement to make healthy food choices, and develop healthy eating habits for a lifetime.
...Guidelines
Students will receive curriculum-based nutrition education throughout the year that teaches skills, and attitudes that promote healthy eating.
As part of this ongoing education, students will be encouraged to bring healthy snacks and lunches to school, and staff will promote the importance of healthy eating choices with students. Information about choices for healthy snacks and lunches will be shared throughout the year with parents and guardians through school newsletters and classroom letters.
Healthy food choices are foods that fit into one of the four food groups from Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating. Check out the Canada Food Guide at: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/food-guide-aliment/index-eng.php
For safety and health reasons, students will be asked to not share their snacks and lunches with others.
Students will be provided with a clean lunch area in which to eat, and 25 minutes each day to eat their lunch. Each classroom will be equipped with a hand sanitizer for student use at lunch time.
The school will discourage the use of pop and candy as rewards for students for such things as appropriate behaviour, achievement, or participation in fundraising activities. (Gum may be an exception. Research has determined that gum chewing can benefit student learning.)
Recognizing that drinking adequate amounts of water during the day is important for learning, students will be encouraged to keep themselves hydrated. Teachers will allow students to keep a water bottle at their desk or in a designated area in the classroom.
Healthy food choices will be available at all class parties and celebrations. A letter will go home to all parents and guardians at the beginning of the school year outlining suggestions for nutritious party foods.
All school-sponsored activities will promote healthy food choices. Any fundraising activities at the school involving students, staff and/or the Beaverlodge parent community will be asked to comply with Beaverlodge’s Nutrition Policy and Guidelines. Any outside organizations using the school will be made aware of the school nutrition policy.
